Continuing The Chris Rock Interview Chat In Its Own Space
From the Drudge Report (no kidding):
HOST CHRIS ROCK SHOCK: ONLY GAYS WATCH OSCARS
ACADEMY MEMBERS ALARMED OVER CHOICE OF COMIC
**Exclusive**
Veteran members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have grown concerned over the choice of Chris Rock as host of this month’s awards show, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
Concern deepened after Rock claimed only gays watch the Oscars!
“I never watched the Oscars. Come on, it’s a fashion show,” Rock recently declared.
“What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars? Show me one!”
Rock added: “Awards for art are f—ing idiotic.”
MORE
Academy members have privately called for Chris Rock to be removed as host, sources claim, fearing Rock may “tarnish” the reputation of the Academy.
“Simply put, this is a disgrace,” one veteran Hollywood mogul, who asked not to be identified, said from Los Angeles.
“This guy is out there saying ‘awards for art are f—ing idiotic’ and he is hosting the show produced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? I guess the joke is on us!”
One nominated actress questions whether producer Gil Cates was even aware that Rock has “never watched the Oscars.”
Other unpublicized comments made by Rock threaten to throw the scheduled Feb. 27 broadcast into complete chaos.
During a recent hate-filled rant, Rock imitated a White House press briefing:
“Mr. President, what about gay marriage? ‘F**k them faggots,'” Rock said of Bush.
What will Rock be wearing to the show?
“Nothing against people who aren’t straight, but what straight guy that you know cares? Who gives a f—?” Rock explained.

Anyone have any idea who he said this to and when? Just out of curiosity. Certainly can’t believe everything you read from Drudge.

It’s from his EW interview…

For fuck’s sake, let’s not allow someone with a point of view host the Oscars!!! (Though I *can* think of several straight black men with whom I’ll be watching the Oscars this year. Rock’s a great comic, but he fires from the hip a bit too much.)
Still, tempest in a teapot. Anyone taking this BS seriously hopefully won’t wake up tomorrow.
You can believe EW but not the Drudge Report? PLEASE!!
Apparently if you make fun of the President’s attitude towards gay marriage, that’s enough to call it a ‘hate-filled rant’. And that joke was from his HBO special last year. Not sure I’d call it ‘recent’.
Oh, and the guy’s a comedian, for Chrissake. He makes jokes. I think that’s why they hired him.
You can assume that any non-attributed “source” that Drudge “reports” is Drudge himself. They’re consistent from story to story, whether it’s about Hollywood or politics: They’re always “outraged,” and they speak in corny dialogue.
My favorite non-attributed Drudge “source” was quoted in Drudge’s rant against Tim Burton’s “Planet of the Apes” remake. According to Drudge, some Washington D.C. “insider” was “shocked” by the ending, which the insider — and, presumably, Drudge — thought was insulting to the memory of a great American president. Of course, by reporting this, Drudge spoiled the surprise ending of the movie. (When “Ain’t It Cool” called him on this, Drudge refused to apologize.) Sort of like Medved and Limbaugh have spoiled the ending of “MDM” for many people. Does this kind of nasty behavior just come naturally to conservatives? Seriously: Can someone come up with a surprise movie ending that Leftie columnists spoiled for thousands (if not millions)?
well seriously. who sits thru all those pre show festivities? girls. who sits thru all the minor awards?
Rosie O’ Donnell spoiled the ending of Fight Club on her show back in 1999 because she hated the movie so much (what a shocker). She then vowed to never have Brad Pitt on her show. Surely he was devastated.
i think everything and everyone is a right wing conspiracy against joe leydon. relax buddy. not everyone is out to get even if ur views are way off
Not that I think Drudge was accurate or anything, but I mean, do the Oscars know who they hired to host this thing? I’m not a fan of Rock or his comedy style – most of it comes off exactly like angry sarcasm and bitter insights. I have a hard time thinking that’s going to go over well with a night geared to honor a bloated movie about Howard Hughes, the whimsical fantasy life of the author of Peter Pan, a pretentious wine aficianado and his friend’s trip, the yearnings of two down on their luck boxers/trainers, and Ray. I think this is a car crash waiting to happen. Which, come to think of it, will probably make it more of an interesting show than the past few years.
Joe Leydon: “Seriously: Can someone come up with a surprise movie ending that Leftie columnists spoiled for thousands (if not millions)?”
How about Frank Rich on The Passion of the Christ? [*** SPOILER WARNING ***] He gave away a big third-act plot point (Christ dying) and *who did it* (the Jews). It ruined the movie for me.
Chris: Holy smoke! You’re right!
Everyone should give away Baby’s ending. It ranks
right up there with Jeff Goldblum eliminating
alien invaders with a 1996 computer virus. Horrible.
Drudge just loves stirring these things up. He
obviously had nothing to do this morning. So he
decided to take on Chris Rock for a rather sarcastic
comment in an EW interview. If this becomes
a controversey, then shenanigans have officially
broken out.
Rock should be the only shining grace of an Oscar
ceremony mired by ridiculous changes only a pompus
old man could love. “GET ON THE STAGE MADSEN! GET
ON THE STAGE!’
If they would only bring back MC Keys.
The only reason I was even going to watch the Oscars was Chris Rock. I also want to see if Benicio is still fat.
ANyway, sounds like a anti-hetero, anti-black, anti-blue collar, anti-irreverence hate campaign against Rock. Y’all give the Afro-Lucifer a chance please. Crabby old white people, geez.
I’ve even read on the internet where some writers are using his Dogma dialog against him as if it were his own words. ANother reason to be annoyed by Kevin Smith and irresponsible unethical writers who misquote and spread nonsense.
This controversy is only going to help the ratings. And I don’t think Rock is really going to surprise anyone with anything. The show is pretty tightly scripted. If Rock makes a comment about someone’s outragious dress, he won’t be the first host to do it.
Any story that originates with Drudge Report is automatically suspect. Matt Drudge is a right-wing hack who:
(1) Pays sources for stories
(2) Relies mostly on hearsay
(3) Thinks it’s cool to be a police snitch
(Source: Village Voice, New York — search their website for proof)
didn’t think i’d see so many bitter drudge haters. the guy doesn’t profess to be the new york times and lie about it. he just posts links to sites with the truth or interesting stories. relax already
I read Drudge all the friggin time, and I admit to
being a liberal and a DEMOCRAT! Drudge essentially
sold all of us down the river by giving as much
notice to Janet Jackson as he did. Since his website
as a new source for the laziest press corp in the
western world.
Now he seems to want to stir up some crap that has
no merit to it. For no other reason just to cause
Gil Gates some ageneau. Rock will host, and he will
kill. At least for us not sitting there in the Kodak
because those folks are not in the HA HA mood until
later. When they get so liquored up you could light
their breath.
Drudge, like Harry Knowles, would rather be in
their only little insular universes than be real
journalists. Hopefully this blows over but you
never know.
I’m sure Rock doesn’t care, the show is nearly live so unless he says something totally unapropriate their not going to drag him off durring the show and if they don’t ask him back I’m sure he won’t care. As soon as I heard Rock was hosting I knew it was just a silly attempt to boost the sagging viewing numbers.
The problem I have is I don’t think there has been a worthy host since Carson. Billy Crystal was good but Carson was always funny and kept the class the show should have.
As far as Drudge if the quote is true then I guess we know he will be watching the show.
Bi-Bob: To paraphrase Groucho Marx, Your ignorance is no match for my sarcasm. You are so wrong about Drudge, you don’t even qualify as wrong. You say: Drudge “just posts links to sites with the truth or interesting stories.” I say: Shenanigans. (Sorry, L&DB, do I have to pay you some kind of royalty to use that?) Go back and read his site. Very often, he posts “Exclusives” or “Breaking stories” that are not linked to anything – not even reality – but instead are based on his twisted rehashings and dubious “quoting” of informed sources (yeah, right). That’s why he got dropped by AOL, Bi-Boy – he nearly brought a lawsuit on their corporate heads when he “quoted” his “sources” about charges of spousal abuse against a Clinton White House staffer. Big surprise: The charges were false. Drudge is…
Wait a minute. I’m talking to Bi-Bob, right? I guess I need to speak his language.
bob – drugde no gud. him lie. bad man.
That’s some funny stuff. I hope he has more of it during the show.
I think what Drudge is saying is that if Chris Rock wants to host the Oscars, he’s not allowed to have opinions of his own. After all, that’s what the noble troops are giving their lives for, right? The lack of freedom of speech?
leydon u have sarcasm? i just thought it was bitterness and a lot of pent up anger at life.
when did the left wing become committed anti democracy anti free speech? how the times change when u got no backbone or ideas.
They always have been. Now the general public is finally starting to realize this. They’ve been taken over by left wing kooks. They knew what Rock was when they hired him. Hes not Johnny Carson or even Steve Martin.
bob — ur stoopid. u kant defend Drudge, so u attak me. wat a dummie. tipikal right-wing taktik — when u kant r-gew, u spit venum.
Joe, don’t encourage the dog to bark too much. I know it’s fun for a while to shake your cane at bob and hear him bark, but it ends up annoying the whole neighborhood.
Chris Rock is doing what he’s supposed to be doing: drumming up ratings and being funny. I’m gay and I thought his joke about only gays and women watching the show was hysterical. Our big gay Oscar party is already planned. But we’re going hire straight boys to wait on us and serve food.
Ty: I’m sorry. Neighborhood: I’m sorry.
bob: i m sorry
>>But we’re going hire straight boys to wait on us and serve food.<< Steve, considering the homophobia of some posters who frequent this joint, I'd say you must have solid brass balls to feed them a straight line like that one.
hey Joe,
can you please say Bi-Bob just once more for me?
the mental image of Bob as a repressed American Beauty styled switch-hitting bully fits like a glove.
The runway into the Academy audience is going to allow Rock some freedom to get in the face of some deserving folks.. anyone who remembers his brilliant and caustic 25th Ann SNL routine will be chomping at the bit for some more.
OK, Dr. Jeff, just for you: Hey, Bi-Bob! Your son still dealing grass?
Steve, I agree with Joe. Good for you though. It was the most intelligent thing in this post.
I look forward to Rock’s opening monologue, and hopefully he’ll fire some zingers that’ll be worth remembering later on down the road. Anyone who read that EW interview can tell when he’s being serious and when he’s being a smartass. If you’ve seen his previous material that is.
I never watched any Carson hosted Oscars (or at least I can’t remember them if I did). I started watching more regularly early 90s. So far I’d say Steve Martin has been my favorite host. I think Rock’ll slay them. Should be interesting.
Rock has repeatedly said that he’s a professional who knows how to “behave” on network television. (I don’t ever remember him swearing during his years on SNL.) Drudge is a pathetic loner who spins these outrageous items in a desparate ploy for attention. Remember his “World Exclusive” which “proved” Clinton was the father of a 13-year-old son by a Black prostitute? It was “Exclusive” because everyone knew it was total crap. He’s still facing a $32 million lawsuit for falsely stating that Clinton adviser Sidney Blumenthal beat his wife. And of course, let’s not forget his “expose” of the “Bush-bashing” NC-17-rated TEAM AMERICA, in which Bush never even appears and was still in production at the time of his report. Drudge is nothing more than Melrose Larry Green with a laptop.
Mr. Leydon
since you are apologizing to everybody, can you also apologize to my Ancestors please for “drugde no gud. him lie. bad man.”
We don’t believe bicycle Bob has enough tribal DNA to be able to make such a statement, though he is free to dislike people as it pleases him.
i will be watching the oscars for Rock but what I would give to hear him off-camera with the crowd a captive audience. I think he might want to stay at an least arms-length away from CLint if he’s going to do a Billy Crystal type of serenade.
Your ancestors? Uh-oh. I mean to sound Cro-Magnon, not Native American. I’m sorry.
Actually cro-magnon and neanderthals we pretty nice guys compared to the current homo sapiens that rules. They didn’t appear to have pre-meditated murder for one thing, so maybe we should not associate their poor departed souls with utterings of board-rant lingo either.
I wasn’t offended and was Just kidding of course! Injuns can’t get offended about too much (Smoke signals is a good movie for that).
Figures that Joe Leydon has to use derogatory sexual remarks about someone. What happend to caring about people and including everyone? I thought you Leftys were above the fray? You like to say it but you don’t practice it. Typical really.
This is all hype manufactured by Drudge. Remember how he had “White House sources” all upset about The Sum of All Fears and then nothing really materialized?
Chris Rock will put on a good show, make fun of some people and so what? He won’t be the first one. David Letterman sure pissed on some folks, when he hosted. Enjoy the show!
Above the fray? Say what? Markie Mark, I’ve claimed many things about myself, and been accused of many other things, but “above the fray” is a new one. And an inccaurate one. I’m ENGAGED, Markie Mark. As in, IN the fray. Which is why I always sign my full name to every opinion I offer, every statement I make. Don’t try to hide behind aliases, don’t whine or back down when some typical right-wing blowhard tries some typical lame-ass right-wing debating trick: Accuse somebody of saying something they’ve never said, or doing something they’ve never done, or claiming something they’ve never claimed, and then attack them. Me above the fray? Jeez, you Righties always go to the same obfuscation playbook, and, frankly, it’s a bit pathetic.
Engaged? Whats his name? You in Vermont or Frisco?
Sorry, Mark: That kind of juvenile schoolyard taunt only works on someone who (a) is sexually insecure, or (b) would consider it an insult to be mislabeled as (or mistaken for) gay. Once again, a tattered page from the Rightie Playbook. Jeez, you people are soooooooooo predictable. Sorry, unless you can come up with new material, you’re not worthy of my scorn, much less my witty response.
Wow. Shenanigans have officially broken out up
in the blog again. SHAME! SHAME!!!!!!!!
leydon, can u at least be a little more creative to come up with a put down than bi bob? even i think ur better than that. even for a lib. maybe its the best u can do. if it is feel free.
Matt Drudge has exposed himself as a McCarthyite!
Drudge incriminated himself on “Hannity & Colmes” last night. Defamer posted a transcript of the incriminating words:
Hannity: Did you talk to Chris Rock for this story. Did you get in touch with him?
Drudge: No, because there’s simply enough out there.
When Colmes asked him if he was using his website to try and get Rock removed:
Drudge: Oh, I don’t know….
Colmes: ..do you have an agenda?
Drudge: No, I don’t…I..I..I…
(Shout-out to Fark.com for linking to the Defamer item.)
Rock still said all those things. How is Drudge a McCarthyite for putting it on his website?
Drudge is simply running a non-story to try to cover up for the somewhat-non-story (but far more fascinating) he refuses to cover: the gay hooker with a White House press pass. If Matt can’t cover the biggest gay scandal going, he’s gonna have to make another gay scandal up. And he did. I mean that EW article is weeks old. Plus, he’s gotta come up with an anti-Hollywood “shocker” come awards time, cause he’s gotta pay the bills. Two years ago it was the terrible sight of Derek Luke getting excited at the Spirit Awards when he won Best Actor – doesn’t he know we’re at war? Of course, not a word was written about the NCAA basketball tournament games and the screaming fans and players enjoying a basketball game while our boys are dying. Part of the fun of reading Drudge is how predictable his shit is. The other part is watching all the lazy cable news outlets, talk radio hosts and their ilk hop aboard whatever bandwagon he’s conjured.
its funny because its not like he lied or made up quotes (hes not CBS). rock went off on his rant in entertainment weekly. maybe the premiere magazine of hollywood. no one mis quoted him. he said what was on his mind. and obviously its a story since ur all talking about
Except that Drudge pulled all of Rock’s quotes out of context. David addressed this in his Hot Button column yesterday. Once again, the man is a total slime who tries to manufacture controversy mainly to keep himself in the public eye. (Drudge, I mean, not Poland!)
what context? he did say them. how are we supposed to read into what he said about no straight guy watches the show? i thought it was a good interview even though the interviewer did screw up by not asking follow up questions. he was honest to a fault. and lets face it. now it gives people a reason to watch. to see how rock does.
So bob. I don’t understand. Who’s side are you on? Dave Poland or Drudge’s?
bob doesn’t even understand. He will shift his view depending on who he is arguing with. The fact that he defends someone like Drudge says all you need to know about bi-bob.
Yeah, but he’s also a kiss-up to David Poland, so he’s in a real quandry: defend his hero Drudge, and have to say Poland is wrong, or say Poland is right but then be on the record siding against Drudge. I’m sure the whole conflict is hwrting his twiny wittle head.
why do i have to suck up to anyone? thats ur guys job. i have my own views. unlike u guys who read from a list. drudge can post what he wants. he doesn’t run commentary. he just posts the story. rock said it. he never misquoted him. it was in EW for christsakes. david can talk about context but the fact is rock did say it. they hired him knowing he was like this. they love the publicity. david was right about the interviewer being crappy. could have been an even better interview. now hows that sucking up? is everything taking a side with u lib clowns?
What did Drudge do wrong? He just printed the interview. Who are the Oscar guys kidding? They love this. Gives people something to tune into. To see if hes going to go off. Rock loves it cause he speaks his mind and gives him a bigger name. Whats the Left have against Drudge anyway?
Drudge has a hate for Rock which is understandable since Rock said he wanted to be his As*. Count me as one of the people now interested in seeing what Rock does as a host.
no response stellas girl. like i expected.
This is, hands down, the most intelligent commentary I’ve read regarding the Rock/Drudge affair.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A33625-2005Feb17.html
bob, you have to be joking. Tell me you are not serious. You have ignored people’s questions for days and days. Even now the questions remain unanswered. Don’t throw stones in a glass house bi-bob.
don’t be the pot calling the kettle black stella. the drudge thing is the best thing to happen to the oscars since brando had a fake indian walk onstage for him. its only going to make casual watchers watch and see what rock does. a great two fer with the interview and then the bizarro controversy. it doesn’t even commentary from some biased wash post reporter.
I think Drudge and Rock are best friends and they did this on purpose.
Don’t be silly. Drudge has no friends.
If he had no friends he wouldn’t be getting scoops on a daily basis.
They aren’t Drudge’s ‘friends’ as much as they are the back-stabbing, two-faced, self-efacing passive-agressive ‘friends’ of whoever is getting ratted out. et tu Brute.
Ir if it’s data on someone like Paris H it’s probably herself.
so everyone that tells the truth or whistle blows is a rat? didn’t know we dealt with the mob, lota
I did grow up with the ‘organized’ Sicilians and Jews, and I know many judges. But that is beside the point.
The point is, most tipsters to Drudge and certain other twisters of his ilk do so in order to tell a partial truth or rumor. Like executives. They are good at that kinda stuff, especially when they do it to make up for lack-of-competence and ability to be straight with people they don’t like for whatever reason. Two-legged rats.
That did not make any sense. So you hate Drudge. Congrats. Don’t go to his site then.
