this might be a dumb question….but Dave…. do you review films anymore? i’ve been wanting to know your take on Observe and report and Fast & Furious. Coraline?? Geez man…
I’d just like to again say that people should really go see OBSERVE AND REPORT this weekend. The trailers and promo campaign do not indicate what kind of film it is. it’s really funny, sad, violent and refreshing. Go see it! Support the subversive and inappropriate!!
I won’t see O&R til later in the weekend, but the enraged “reviews” from everyday moviegoers are stacking up on idiot-based sites like IMDB and Yahoo. Lot of FURIOUS paying customers.
Expect a Watchmen level of audience hostility? Expect a Watchmen level of clueless parents bringing their little kids?
I was just on IMDB where “Observe and Report” has a rating of 7.0/10 at this moment.
LexG needs to do 2 things: (1) Take a course in fact-checking, (2) Turn off caps lock when posting.
“Support the subversive and inappropriate!!”
What, does Rogen’s character support Sarah Palin and the film condones it?
Seriously, what is so “subversive” about this film. Haven’t seen it. Have read some spoilers that do not seem subversive at all. Just “shock-value” kinda stuff.
What did you think the film said that was subversive?
Chucky:
1) Learn how to scroll down the page on IMDB to the MESSAGE BOARD, where in real time you can refresh and see a new angry poster complaining about the movie every four seconds. I wasn’t talking about the user reviews, which for a film this new are still probably only from festival devotees but not the regular Joe.
2) Would this course in fact-checking be anything like a course in name-checking and Oscar-whoring?
“What, does Rogen’s character support Sarah Palin and the film condones it?”
That might make the film inappropriate, but wouldn’t really be ‘subversive’.
The idea of ‘a course in fact-checking’ also blew my mind a little. Especially since I don’t see any controversial facts in Lex’s earlier post.
Well, whattaya know.

Chucky in Jersey: “Life-Long Truth Warrior.”
I’m a little sad that Nicol D likely won’t be favoring us with a follow-up; From his tone, I’m assuming he’s predisposed to view O&R as some “shock value” evil Hollywood comedy all set to attack his morals. Which is par for the course and fine, but then I’m wondering why Hollywood Conservatives and bloggers were champing at the bit for “Tropic Thunder.” Weren’t the Libertas/Dirty Harry dorks all about that shit for its supposed attack on political correctness? What was the difference then?
Knowing how these guys operate, I have a deep suspicion that one is not more “subversive” or “un-PC” than the other, but likely someone attached to “Tropic Thunder” probably admitted to voting Republican in an interview at one time. That’s generally all it takes to get a seal of approval from the Big Hollywood gang.
Tropic Thunder wasn’t an attack on political correctness, but an attack on Hollywood bullshit, which (I assume) is what the Dirty Harry crowd were enjoying about it. The thing is, I’m a liberal and hate Hollywood bullshit too, therefore I very much enjoyed the movie. Bullshit has no political party.
Hey, good news to all those folks still holding Disney stock. Unless the floor drops out on Easter Sunday, Hannah Montana’s gonna make north of $30 million this weekend. And people said the tweens are fickle!!
Anybody else see Dragonball? Truly one of the most bizarre would-be blockbusters I’ve ever seen. Nothing in the movie is explained, or makes any particular kind of sense, but it’s kind of fun to watch.
Nicol-
I refuse to respond till you see the movie. Otherwise, what’s the point. Unless you’re one of those crazy righties who rants against stuff he’s never seen. Oh….wait….
