Not to be nitpicky, but aren’t those pics from Toy Story 1 and 2, instead of being from Toy Story 3 ?
My guess is that you all are underrating HOW WILL I KNOW – as a nominee, if not as a winner.
What about Hereafter and How Do You Know??? Those are being underestimated!
I still don’t know why tom hoper is getting ones or even twos i just can’t see him winning over the others who are over due, he just seems too new.
Also there no way Danny Boyle is going to win best director, the last director to do it back to back was steven speilberg. i’m even doubting a nomination
I have a feeling Weir’s name will elevate once more critics see The Way Back. It’s kind of a comeback of sorts as well to a very fine and well respected filmmaker. Oscar likes that.
Spielberg’s wasn’t even back to back, as both Lost World and Amistad came in between Schindler and SPR
o really i didn’t know, so who was the last director to win an oscar back to back?
I am not sure Inception is really one of the contenders…
I think the last director to win an Oscar back to back was David Lean: “The Bridge on the River Kwai” (1957) followed by “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962). Joseph L. Mankiewicz won back to back director Oscars in back to back years: “A Letter to Three Wives” (1949, the year “All the King’s Men” won BP) followed by “All About Eve” (1950).
Kathryn Bigelow won Best Director last year, so Danny Boyle can’t win back to back if it’s years that’s being talked about.
I have a feeling that “The King’s Speech” is peaking too soon….I wouldn’t underestimate “The Social Network” just yet…
Where is “Animal Kingdom”? It was one of the best reviewed films of the year and deserves more consideration than people are giving it. Ben Mendelsohn was AMAZING and should be nominated for best actor, Jacki Weaver for supporting actress, and James Frecheville for supporting actor. I am flabbergasted as to why this film has suddenly fallen off the radar – it was a Sundance winner this year, just like Precious last year, and Precious was all over everywhere last year, despite the fact that it was just a so-so movie with some really good performances. “AK” is so getting screwed…
And the Animated film Oscar NOT going to “My Dog Tulip” will be a crime – as much as I loved “Despicable Me”, let “Toy Story 3” fight it out for best picture and give the year’s truly original animated film the Oscar…
Also underestimated: Made in Dagenham for Best Picture.
Mankiewicz won back to back — he was the last — Lean won for back to back films, but not a single year apart as Mankiewicz did —
