RENOWNED COMPOSER ALEXANDRE DESPLAT SCORING Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
(LOS ANGELES, CA) — Acclaimed composer Alexandre Desplat has signed on to score the drama Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close for Paramount. Based on Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel and directed by Stephen Daldry, the film stars Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and newcomer Thomas Horn. The film tells the story of a nine-year-old boy who searches New York for the lock that matches a mysterious key left by his father when he was killed in the September 11 attacks.
Desplat recently completed scoring Ides of March, which marked his third time working on a George Clooney project, but his first as a director /composer collaboration. Previously, Desplat worked with Clooney on 2005 Syriana and 2009 Fantastic Mr. Fox, for which Desplat received an Oscar® and Golden Globe nomination.
Having scored over 60 films in his native France, Alexandre Desplat made his Hollywood breakthrough in 2003 with his stately score for Girl with a Pearl Earring, which garnered him a Golden Globe nomination. In 2004, his score for Birth attracted widespread attention in film music circles and established his reputation as a diverse artist. Now one of Hollywood’s most in-demand composers, Desplat had numerous film scores released this year including The Tree of Life, A Better Life, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part II, and Ides of March. He has received four Academy Award nominations, including 2010’s The King’s Speech.
In addition to his film work, Alexandre Desplat has conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic and gives master classes at La Sorbonne in Paris and London’s Royal College of Music.
