RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT BRINGS THE COUNTRY’S BEST NEW FILMS AND ESTABLISHED FILM TALENT TO THE 65th CANNES FILM FESTIVAL TO DEBATE AND INSPIRE
Cannes, 17 May 2012: It was announced today by the Russian Film Pavilion’s partners – the Russian Federations’ Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROSKINO and “Planeta Inform”Communication Group – that they will present 10 new Russian films to distributors at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on Friday 18 May at 2.30pm.
This year Russia is represented at two locations: at the Russian Pavilion, with a program dedicated to the promotion of Russian cinema across international markets, and at the Marché du Film, where at Roskino’s booth Russian films are sold. Both locations are equipped with multimedia centers and provide in-depth information on the Russian film industry.
In addition, and as an official partner of the Cannes Film Market’s ‘Producers Network’, where film companies from more than 100 countries of the world take part, ROSKINO will champion Russian projects with international appeal, including the festival’s In-Competition film co-produced by Valentina Mikhaleva, and directed by Sergey Loznitsa’s “IN THE FOG” (a Russia-Germany-Latvia-
The Russian Pavilion partners, in collaboration with respected guest speakers, will also host a series of press conferences, panels and debates throughout the next ten days, including the following:
ü joint commission session by ROSKINO and Association of Film Commissioners International (18 May)
ü Anti Piracy Session (18 May)
ü presentation of “Generation Campus” educational programs (19 May);
ü premiere of Russian debut compilation “Global Russians” (20 May);
ü co-production session and presentation of Russian co-production projects (21 May);
ü press conference of 34th Moscow Film Festival
Viacheslav Telnov, Head of the Cinema Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation said: “This year we have an exceptionally strong program, bringing together a wealth of international knowledge and experience. We welcome the international film community in Cannes to join us, partake in debate, and share thoughts, as we showcase the best in Russian cinema.“
Catherine Mtsitouridze, Director General of ROSKINO added: “Our focus is to bring Russian product with global appeal to the international industry, and this year we are proud of our offering. For the last five years, The Russian Film Pavilion, has officially represented Russia within the framework of the Cannes International Film Festival, and its Film Market Marché du Film. It is an integrated information center of the Russian filmmakers and a universal platform for promoting Russian cinema on the international market.
