  1. Bob Burns says:

Oscar is already stale. Should be no later than January.

  2. Michael Lewis says:

I like your top 3 choices for potentially upset surprise winners. At this point in time I would pick these 3 to win, too. All of them are film veterans, and it’s been over 30 years since DeNiro won his second Oscar. Let the upsets begin!

  3. movielocke says:

    Argo
    – Russell for surprise
    – Deakens for personal
    – Social Media only makes things “worse” if you participate, since I don’t, it makes things no different. Want to have twitter stop ‘making things worse?’ then get off twitter. Simple.
    – more than 5 nominees is much better
    – The Oscars should be the week between the end of playoffs and the superbowl.

  4. Alex Thomas says:

Love these, we are so close to the Oscars now!

Argo no doubt has this won, it’s a shame it didn’t at least let Lincoln win one other award to keep the race close.

    Potential upsets:
Riva is probably the biggest likely upset, although she is quickly becoming a strong chance and Chastain would surprise me a lot more than her. I guess the Supporting Actor category is still a lottery – but I’d be surprised to see anyone other than TLJ/Waltz win.

My personal wish for an upset is probably in a smaller category like Best Animated Film, I’d love to see Frankenweenie get up over Brave and Wreck-It Ralph, both films I didn’t really like.

I love the commentary on Social Media – have found some fantastic discussion on there. Agreed with movielocke above, if you aren’t enjoying Twitter’s impact on the Oscar’s I would simply get off Twitter.

More than 5 nominees I’m still unsure about, but at least there’s more of a chance of films I like getting in.

I’m fine with the current Oscar date, does give other countries (like Australia!) the chance to see all the films before the ceremony.
