You have to think that Sony is more than fine with “The Call” at 17. It cost under 20m to produce and the ads had a low rent tv movie vibe that was palpable. Apparently the film’s not awful (40% on RT)and I was surprised to see that it was an R-rating.
I think it just shows that the market place is starved for a decent adult film/real movie. “Side Effects” came and went in three weeks and other than that there hasn’t been anything worth seeing since the Oscar films bowed.
Agreed…Manohla Dargis even swooned for “The Call.”
“Silver Linings Playbook” just spent its 12th week in the top 10, a feat not accomplished since “Avatar.” That’s about all you need to know about the box office right now…
The year-over-year for this coming weekend is going to be brutal…
