SAMUEL L. JACKSON JOINS PRESENTERS OF WONG KAR-WAI’s THE GRANDMASTER
FILMMAKER MARTIN SCORSESE ALSO BACKING FILM
New York, NY – August 20, 2013 – The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that acclaimed actor Samuel L. Jackson is joining previously announced filmmaker Martin Scorsese in presenting their upcoming release, THE GRANDMASTER. Jackson, who attended the film’s New York premiere on August 13th, will be adding his name to the official supporters of the kung fu film, marking it MARTIN SCORSESE AND SAMUEL L. JACKSON PRESENT: ‘THE GRANDMASTER.’ TWC is releasing the film theatrically in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto on August 23rd and nationwide on August 30th. Wong Kar Wai, helmer of such celebrated films as CHUNGKING EXPRESS, 2046, and MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS, directed the film, which stars internationally beloved actors Tony Leung, Ziyi Zhang, and Chang Chen. The picture is executive produced by Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison and opened the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.
“THE GRANDMASTER is a wild ride and an expertly crafted martial arts film. I was blown away by Tony Leung and Ziyi Zhang’s performances, and needless to say by Wong Kar Wai’s direction; he’s a living legend who I’ve admired for ages, and it’s a true honor to lend my support alongside Martin Scorsese.”
Commented TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein: “To have such names as Wong Kar Wai, Martin Scorsese, and now Samuel L. Jackson behind this release is an astounding show of prestige and a dream come true, to say the least. I stand with Wong Kar Wai in stating that we are beyond thrilled to have Sam’s support.”
