  1. Helen says:

Paulina Garcia for Gloria is the best female performance of the year and she must wins the Oscar.

  2. Sam E. says:

A bit surprised Blanchett is considered a favorite by such a wide margin but she is well deserving of the position.

  3. pj says:

If Butler is in 8-9 spot now, might as take it out now. It’s not the type of film to have passionate support.

  4. Tuck Pendleton says:

I’d say Blanchette is the only lock-lock for acting.

I think All is Lost has a better chance given that older-white man who own boats might relate to it more – i.e. a large percentage of Academy Voters.

I’ve heard Inside Llewyn Davis is incredibly divisive. So it might not get any love.

On the course now, yeah this will be a 12 Years a Slave sweep.

  5. YancySkancy says:

A SERIOUS MAN was incredibly divisive and snuck into the race. So maybe there’s hope for LLEWYN.

I don’t see Octavia Spencer getting in. She’s fine, but it seems to be an “Oscar role” only because an Oscar winner is playing it. Is the field that weak?

  6. Another vote for Paulina Garcia in GLORIA. Utterly magnificent!!

  7. Dean says:

I agree with pretty much all of the frontrunners being frontrunners–except best supporting actor–where I believe the “12 years” juggernaut will win it for Fassbender-plus the fact that a lot of voters were surprised last yr that he wasn’t nominated for “Shame”.

I can’t wait til Oprah LOSES.

  8. Me says:

Is streep in 4or5 spot? The ranking and votes disagree…

  9. movielocke says:

with only two solid contenders in supporting actor, I think Cooper and Renner will have no trouble whatsoever up-ending that race. Cooper gives the Melissa Leo performance to Renner’s Amy Adams performance, if we’re comparing to the Fighter (and Lawrence has the showy and cool Bale performance)

In fact, in may be smart for American Hustle to position all five principles in the supporting categories, that would make Christian Bale a lock. but Bale and Adams would be minor category fraud and cause some pundit consternation.

In short, these are the sorts of performances across the board that the Academy embraced so enthusiastically in The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook.

  10. Chris L. says:

For the Paulina Garcia fans: My understanding is the film opens 1/17 with no qualifying run, so only eligible for Foreign Lang. category. Hope I’m wrong: based on the reviews and Berlin prize, why wouldn’t they give her a chance?

Does anybody have the real story on this?

  11. I’m not saying you’re wrong to leave them off, but I just want to say that I am totally bummed that James Cromwell and Genevieve Bujold are not going to be nominated in the lead categories for their work in STILL MINE. Seriously, I think they both deserve it.

  12. Mark says:

Disappointed not to see any mention of The Way Way Back, especially Sam Rockwell for an astounding supporting performance.

  13. Kate says:

It seems like there’s a vote missing in the supporting actor category. Olsen is missing his #2 choice.
