Helium was not the best live action short. It’s a shame if it beats out Just Before Losing Everything, which was far and away the best of them.

Why not Invisible Woman for costume design? Highest stitch count. Period piece. Seems like Oscar bait to me.
Also, why wasn’t Amy Adams performance from American Hustle placed in supporting actress category? Supporting seems a more suitable spot for the role, which offered true support, unlike the actual supporting actress front runners, whose roles did not really do much to support either the main character (or ensemble in the case of American Hustle although Christian Bale arguably portrayed the film’s main character) or the story arc.
If you read the reviews of the Live Action Shorts at Rotten Tomatoes, the critical support for Just Before Losing Everything is overwhelming, an opinion I completely agree with. I think the Gurus are overthinking things in opting for the sentimental Helium (or the relatively slight The Voorman Problem).
