DESIERTO WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY JONAS CUARON AND STARRING GAEL GARCĺA BERNAL AND JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN BEGINS PRODUCTION
BAJA CALIFORNIA (March 6, 2014) – It was announced today that Jonás Cuarón’s DESIERTO began production last week in La Paz, Baja California. Gael García Bernal (NO, Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (WATCHMEN, P.S. I LOVE YOU) will star in the film, written by Cuarón and Mateo García. The film marks Cuarón’s second directorial feature after AÑO UÑA, which premiered at the 2006 Venice Film Festival.
Cuarón has previously written several films including the Academy Award-winning GRAVITY with his father Alfonso Cuarón, and has directed several short films including last year’s ANINGAAQ.
Cuarón will produce alongside Alfonso Cuarón, Carlos Cuarón, Charles Gillibert, and Alex García.
David Linde, Gael García Bernal, Fréderique Dumas-Zajdela, Nicolás Celis, and Santiago García Galván will serve as executive producers.
A cat and mouse chase between a Mexican undocumented migrant worker, Moises (Bernal), and an American vigilante, Sam (Morgan), DESIERTO is set against the backdrop of the border desert, where the brutal yet beautiful landscape itself becomes a metaphor for the characters’ own inner struggles.
DESIERTO is an Esperanto Kino production, in association with CG Cinema, Orange Studio, Canana, and Itaca Films. Damián García will serve as the film’s director of photography.
Jonas Cuarón is repped by UTA. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is represented by UTA and Managed by Rob Gomez at Precision Ent. Gael García Bernal is represented by Elyse Scherz at WME.
