After New York…
Just Before Selma & American Sniper
Just After Selma & American Sniper
Karger still leaving Selma out of his picks.
Right now Selma is my #11. It feels very strange to be so out of sync with all of my esteemed panelists! Clearly I’m missing something.
Karger, Selma is getting sky high raves. It’s going to make it in the top categories.
Went back to year’s past to see how the Gurus are usually doing by this time and it’s typical for them to be missing out on 2 eventual nominees in their pre-Thanksgiving predictions. My guess is that they’re doing worse this year than in the past because of the highly volatile climate of the race this year. I think they’re underestimating 4 films: Into the Woods, American Sniper, Whiplash and Mr. Turner right now and overestimating Gone Girl, Unbroken, Foxcatcher and especially The Theory of Everything.
While they’re most definitely underestimating Interstellar, at least they still have it in their top 9. Not surprised they’re still counting The Grand Budapest Hotel in considering how long it took them to let go of Moonrise Kingdom.
I’m from Birmingham and can’t imagine most Academy Members leaving King in Selma out of their top five…. especially now when voting rights are under attack.
I do not think it will win major critics awards, but most nominees don’t.
Has anyone seen Into The Woods yet? It seems to have fallen on these charts and I’m not sure it is because it has been seen…or just because other movies that have just finally been seen have pushed their way up the charts.
I pray Amy Adams doesn’t get nominated for her big Flop eyes for a THIRD YEAR in a row on her 6th nomination when she isn’t going to win anyway.
Hilary Swank deserves it for playing a much more interesting character in a better film.
then there’s Blunt to see.
Marion Cotillard should get the Oscar nomination for her wonderful performance in Two Days, One Night. And Gurus should support her.
LOL @ Theory of Everything at 4 and Redmayne #1.
Question–are the gurus voting on the movies/performances they think deserve nominations…or what they believe will be nominated?
Helen, Cotillard won’t happen this year. Not if she’s in France avoiding campaign.
She went all the way to France to avoid campaigning? She could have just gone to Glendale.
I saw “Into the Woods” last night at a special screening (Karger, did I see you there too?). I really enjoyed it. They translated the material for the screen as well as one could imagine. How that will translate for non-fans of the show I can’t guess. Best part is the cast, with Streep and Blunt the MVPs. Blunt should definitely get a Golden Globe BA (comedy/musical) nod and may be a threat for that elusive 5th Oscar BAs slot. Streep should be pretty secure in Sup. Actress.
Jen Aniston deserves the 5th spot her screening of Cake is moving and her performance is Oscar worthy, brilliant and believable. A lot of industry people cried last night very touching movie
Eddie Redmayne is now #1! That’s wonderful!
Aniston should not even be in the top 50.
no love for Anne Dorval in Xavier Dolan`s Mommy?
