  1. Vince says:

American Sniper is way too low. I’m shocked not ONE respected pundit has gotten the hint of a possible American Sniper dominance.
The Guilds are giving you the hint people.
    Don’t be shocked.

    I would say:

    1. Boyhood
    2. American Sniper
    3. Birdman
    4. The Imitation Game
    5. Gone Girl
    6. The Theory of Everything
    7. Selma
    8. Nightcrawler
    9. Whiplash
    10. Grand Budapest
    11. into the Woods
    12. Foxcatcher
    13. Wild
    14. Unbroken

But, if Selma generates some Argo level backlash buzz from today’s snub it should be sitting extremely pretty at the oscars, and perhaps they can translate that backlash into an upset of Boyhood. I think by the time nominations roll around the backlash to the snubs will have moved Selma back into the top five. The snub narrative will pickup steam when Selma misses Director’s guild in a few days, although that won’t affect oscar nomination voting.

    Academy Best director is probably
    1. Linklater
    2. Eastwood
    3. Innaritu
    4. Fincher
    5. DuVernay

  3. Joe Gillis says:

I think Damian Chazelle might find his way into the Best Director fold, a’la Benh Zeitlin for Beasts of the Southern Wild or Spike Jonze for John Malkovich. I’ll be shocked if Sniper ends up taking one of the directorial slots, especially given the superiority of other contenders.
