So how much of a box office difference would there have been if Colin Firth had stayed with Paddington?
Really painful numbers for Blackhat. I saw it yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Felt like Mann doing his riff on an old school Jerry Bruckheimer/Tony Scott type thriller, and since I thought that particular subgenre died with Scott, it ended up being a very pleasant surprise.
But the marketing on this was awful. I have no idea why Universal sold it as a dreary technodrama. It’s a straight action movie, and even with good marketing it probably still would’ve been crushed by American Sniper, but at least people would have had a chance to honestly evaluate what they were getting.
