Glad to see MAD MAX is actually rising to the top tier.

  2. Miles Ridding says:

I’m very disappointed with the usually discerning Chicago film critics, plus the many other groups it would seem. I feel like Kathy Bates in ‘Misery’ wanting to scream out ‘What is wrong with you people. Have you all got amnesia. It’s just a mediocre chase movie for heaven’s sake!’ SAG who are usually like sheep, this year don’t even seem to be paying attention to consensus and are desperately all over the place. As usual it looks as if optimism about rewarding (what I consider) the best is fast turning into a resigned and predictable disappointment in which mediocrity, yet again, reigns.

Does Hollywood have sexist hiring practices? 112 qualifying Oscar scores, and only one, a documentary, solo credited to a woman.

That’s right, Hollywood didn’t hire any solo female composers for any narrative feature film in all of 2015.

That’s worse than the sexist hiring practices with DPs! And worth remembering on awards season that cinematography is the only category (out if 20 non gendered categories) to have only nominated men. No woman has ever been nominated for best cinematography.

(Post prompted by press release about qualifying scores at the top of the main page at the moment)
