The gurus of gold and all the Oscar pundits need to take some responsibility for the all white Oscar nominees. After all they make their lists, almost all white and occasionally throwing in a minority at the very bottom of all their lists. Then, Google searches put these charts in front of voters and all they see is all white lists of the best of the year with token minorities at the bottom where they are easily ignored or never gotten to by voters. The gurus and pundits forced a silly sci if sequel into every year end award by atypically and universally puutting it at the top of every possible chart, and voters followed their shepherd, like good sheep. That sort of power could be put to use to promote minorities not just Australians. 😉
Which is not to absolve the real culprits. Studios and filmmakers are the real problem: there’s no reason in this day and age for spotlight to be so lily white in all its casting choices, for example, very racist choices all around, if you’re going to cast actors who are prettier than their real counterparts you can cast actors who are different races than real life just as easily.
So studios and filmmakers deserve 55% of the blame for Oscars so white. Voters deserve 40% of the blaming for voting for Oscars so white and pundits like the gurus deserve 5% of the blame for only talking about so white actors for oscar.
Don’t get prickly pundits. It’s nothing mean directed at you, it’s just describing a phenomenon akin to search engine optimization. You are putting all top choices all white (or all mad max) and since you are all behaving like that SEO just mathematically means it returns that results. All the non white actors this year were on the metaphorical equivalent of the dreaded second page of Google search results, and the poor SEO of the pundits in ordering their lists with nonehites in token bottom spots is partly responsible for that outcome.
