Weekend Estimates by Klady: Episode 18
Star Wars: The Force Awakens closes out its holiday run with a singular run, just $20 million short of the domestic box office record. Ferlberg takes advantage of the holiday, coming up just short of $100 million with their second collaboration, Daddy’s Home. The Revenant and Anomalisa continue to rack up big numbers in four-theater exclusive releases.
The only two records I’m still curious about after tomorrow: FURIOUS 7’s overseas total, which it now looks like it’ll beat, and TITANIC’s worldwide total, which seems like a 50/50 proposition.
TITANIC’s overseas haul, and AVATAR’s worldwide/overseas takes remain out of reach I think.
$88m in its third weekend which is probably a cautious estimate about what Dave said it would take in its opening weekend!
The Force is strong with the accountants!
Oh yeah. This is long overdue… SUCK IT, AVATAR! SUCK IT! WOOOOOOO HOOOO! COME ON, CHINA! BRING IT ON HOME!
STAR WARS is 1.2 billion behind AVATAR worldwide, JS. From a box office perspective, that’s all the studios really care about.
so exciting when corporations get lots of money
Ethan, and it will get that record. If it doesn’t, do you think Disney is going to cry over having the one and only, possibly, billion dollar domestic grossing movie? I don’t think so. Avatar is dead. Long live… THE REAL AVATAR STARRING FUCKING AANG, KATARA, TOPH, ZUKO, AND FUCKING SOKKA!
Eric, it’s long since being a point with Avatar, but a movie that actually resonates in this culture has the #1 spot, as it fucking should be.
Not a big fan of Avatar, but would still put the chances of Cameron grabbing the top spot back with the sequel at about 60%.
Hcat, in what realty do you live where Avatar matters? It’s a non entity, and will be lucky to make more than Guardians 2. It will be lucky, to beat the Han Solo movie.
