UCLA Sets Month-Long Jerry Bruckheimer Film Festival

The festival will celebrate Jerry Bruckheimer’s outstanding achievements in film offering panel discussions and screenings of beloved films such as American Gigolo, Black Hawk Down, Enemy of the State and Top Gun
Los Angeles (February 17, 2016) — Dean Teri Schwartz and the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA TFT), one of the world’s most prominent academic institutions for entertainment and performing arts education, announced today that legendary film and television producer Jerry Bruckheimer will be honored with a month long film festival that pays tribute to the outstanding contributions he has made throughout his career. The festival will take place during the month of April at UCLA’s Billy Wilder Theater in Westwood Village and is presented in association with Paramount Pictures and UCLA Film & Television Archive.
For decades, Jerry Bruckheimer has amassed a legacy of popular and staggeringly successful motion picture triumphs that have contributed to the scale and tone of American filmed entertainment. He has been instrumental in defining the career directions of numerous world-class writers, directors and actors. His films create resounding cultural moments that enliven the themes of striving and achieving; ideas that lie at the heart of the American identity.

The festival will open on Friday, April 1 with the Oscar-winning action drama Top Gun (1986) followed by a Q&A with Jerry Bruckheimer. The festival will also feature other acclaimed favorites such as Enemy of the State (1989), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), The Rock (1996), Armageddon (1998), Flashdance (1983), Crimson Tide (1995), Black Hawk Down (2001), American Gigolo (1980) and Beverly Hills Cop (1984).
“I’m absolutely thrilled to receive this honor from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television,” said Jerry Bruckheimer. “UCLA TFT is an enormously important center of learning and teaching which has been responsible for educating thousands of talented students who have gone on to make tremendous contributions to the arts. Jerry Bruckheimer has produced nearly 50 feature films and is one of the most successful producers of all time. He is the first producer in Hollywood history to produce the two highest-grossing films during a single weekend, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Bad Boys II. Jerry Bruckheimer’s films and television programs have received 43 Academy Award nominations and six Oscars, 127 Emmy nominations and 23 Emmys, 23 Golden Globe nominations and four Golden Globes, and many other awards. In addition to numerous awards for his contributions to motion pictures and television, Jerry Bruckheimer is the first producer to be honored with an American Cinematheque Award, along with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and hand and footprints immortalized in front of the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.
