The Anne Thompson vote for “Maggie’s Plan” seems odd unless you remember past years of her early faves/contenders such as “Jane Eyre” or “Win Win.” I’m not knocking this approach; it would be great if more pundits advocated for films they happen to like, thus widening the roster of possibilities. But with this particular film’s overall reception, it’s unlikely to break through even if all the unseen films disappoint. Maybe a supporting nod for Moore.

  2. My top three are only ones that I have seen.

I understand, and meant no disrespect. Sometimes we civilians assume that industry insiders have access to a lot of stuff long before it has “officially” been seen. But from this distant perch I’d still place “Maggie”‘s chances below “Hail, Caesar” and maybe even “Love and Friendship.” Guess that’s about it from what’s been released (though I also loved “Sunset Song”).
