Weekend Estimates by Waiting For Guardians Klady
The Fate of the Furious holds onto the top spot with no competition of significance arriving. DisneyNature’s Born in China plays like a family film and is the top newcomer with a projected $5 million. Warner Bros.’ Going in Style is holding better than expected while Unforgettable escapes and the studio waits for Wonder Woman. What are the odds that a second movie with “Forgot” in the title would open on a single weekend? Not good. Like Phoenix Forgotten‘s box office draw. The Promise opens to $4.1 million, which is actually above extremely low expectations. A24 tries out the 1,000-screen opening turf and finds it unfriendly as Free Fire can’t crack $1,000 per-screen.
Klady got Citizen Jane per screen wrong
With Japan’s biggest overall opening since 2011, BATB suddenly looks like a good bet to hit $1.2 billion and possibly top IRON MAN 3 to crack the all-time Top 10. From a box office perspective, it’s the most profitable release since FORCE AWAKENS.
Of course, it might not be able to hold off FATE it terms of pure dollars. If BATB can match ALICE in Japan it’ll be close.
Maybe Katherine Heigl should consider a career change and start doing stage work. Her new movie bombs, and her new TV show got pulled after just 2 episodes aired.
That’s really embarrassing since CBS is still airing Training Day episodes even after Bill Paxton’s untimely passing.
