  1. lockedcut says:

Why can’t they just call it “The Pentagon Papers”?

  2. lockedcut says:

It is such a slight and light year for awards pictures, reminiscent of 1990, 91, and 92 the pre Weinstein era when genre films were ascendant with the academy with westerns and horror films winning all three years and a gangster film just barely losing.

Makes an interesting case for if the academy rejects the two decades of dominance of Weinstein era “awards exist only for meller-dramas with acht-ing” and goes back to a series of more genre and populist choices in line with Hollywood.

If so then that speaks strongly to get out, Wonder Woman, and beauty and the beast over performing with awards season.

  3. hepwa says:

sorry but having Darkest Hour ahead of CMBYN is borderline foolish.

  4. YancySkancy says:

    Allison “Janey”?

  5. Sergio says:

You guys really see The Big Sick and Get Out in at Picture over Baby Driver?? I know those two made a shit ton of money and had great word of mouth, but this is the Oscars here. I think Baby has a lot more cred and love in the industry than either of those but you guys know best.

Also, Florida Project will be much higher on that list come New Years.

  6. Dr Wally Rises says:

There are rumors going around that The Post has gotten into problems in (pun not intended) post-production, with another editor being brought in to help Michael Kahn. Yes, Spielberg has worked around a very short post-production many times before, but what’s the over/under on it getting pushed to 2018 at this point?

  7. Ron Rogers says:

It makes me laugh to see all this Oscar hype and prognosticating for movies that most of us won’t see until January. Kinda makes it a bit of a joke.

  8. Daniella Isaacs says:

Well, Ron, the fact that you clicked on the link is all the encouragement MCN needs to keep posting stuff like this. So… #partoftheproblem.

  9. Stephen Holt says:

Er, David, um…It’s “Last Flag Flying” not Standing that Steve Carell is in.
