People keep banging on about how exciting and unpredictable this Oscar race is, when in fact, if Gurus’ predictions are right (and I’m afraid they will be), this looks to be extremely dull. I shan’t wait up. I mean – Janney, McDormand and Rockwell are the best – REALLY! All this tells us is that Academy members lack imagination and seem unable to comprehend that less is definitely more. Here’s hoping their are wins for Ronan, Chalamet, Plummer and Metcalfe.

Well, Miles, the fact that Best Picture is a toss up is kind of exciting, but yeah. Not THAT exciting. I’d like some hot three-way races and we surely don’t have that. And there had better be one honest-to-goodness upset, or I’LL be upset.

Yup, sadly it’s looking pretty boring. Not that Oldman, McDormand, Rockwell, or Janney are bad, but they’re not so much better than any of the other nominees. Let’s hope for at least one upset–Saoirse Ronan would be my favorite–just to keep us all awake.

And please, please don’t let Three Billboards win BP.

When did Hollywood lose its ability to entertain? The show was a laborious bore, sanctimonious, posturing, virtue signaling. Four hours of atonement and political venting. Did they really think that’s what the viewing audience outside the hall want to see? Hugh loss of viewers suggests Americans voted with their remotes.

The few true stars there glistened above the low wattage, soon-to-be-fogotten presenters who littered the stage.
