Well guess its obvious whose winning best pic this year with spielberg as the only best director nom out of the three best movies of argo, zero dark thirty, and lincoln.
What the heck is the deal these last few years with soft movies always winning over the real and important movies? I mean weve had best pics of no country for old nen, the departed, and hurt locker for a few years and now we seem to be back into the “drivin miss daisy” days of simple mass appeal rubbish winning like the kings speech, and now lincoln. grrrrrrrrr.
Lincoln is a typical Oscar bait film. Driving Miss Daisy this is not…..
Agreed antoinew. When The King’s Speech was chosen over a superior, relevant to modern-times The Social Network, I smelled the change a-coming. Zero Dark Thirty is urgent filmmaking at its best. Bigelow used every skill she possessed to make a movie that shocks and surprises around every corner. Spielberg, in making what amounts to a good stage-production, went the safe route. Older voters are far more comfortable watching a bunch of people sitting around talking then watching uncomfortable and shocking scenes of torture and war. Shame on you Academy for ignoring a great film when it all but slaps you in the face.
Side note: does anyone think that Zero Dark Thirty’s later than usual entrance into the mainstream box office hurt its chances to earn more nominations?
