why does it take so long for the Academy to decide? The craft guilds do it in half the time and have to vote on TV/Online – twice as much work.

Other than supporting the trades and the oscar industry online, there’s no good reason this should take so long…. these picks,as competent as they truly are, look like yesterday’s news.

But, on the other hand, that pic from the luncheon will be (in)famous for decades.

Interesting to see the narratives that might fit some of these prognostications.

Innaritu joining Ford and Mankiewicz in two consecutive wins, over Miller’s first nomination in a pseudo-career achievement win.

Lubezki being the first threepeat (first two-fer actually nominated a third consecutive year, by the way) over Seale’s visual feast or even a long-overdue career achievement for Deakins.

The fades of Mara and Rylance after what seemed like strong buzz in earlier phases.

Wonder how much of these possible “narratives” seem to fit decent enough at this stage and how much seem false/irrelevant.

How are Damon, Fassbender, and Cranston not “potential upsets”? If any of them beat Leo, isn’t that the very definition of the word “upset”?

Why not just say that you don’t predict anything unpredictable?

There used to always be at least one surprise (what? Kevin Kine for “Fish Called Wanda?”), but lately not even that on Oscar night. Oh well, I guess the top prize is still something of a question mark.
