LOS ANGELES, (July 16, 2012) – The acorn-loving movie icon Scrat said “nuts” to Spider-Man, as ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT, the fourth installment of 20th Century Fox’s blockbuster animated franchise, took in an amazing $46.629 million in domestic box office over the weekend – beating last week’s box office champ, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and even besting the $41.7 million, three-day start of IA: CD’s predecessor, 2009’s “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
The new film, like its predecessors, continues to be a juggernaut internationally, cementing its position as the #1 film there and, now with its big domestic opening…in the world. The global tally for IA:CD is a monolithic $385 million, and the “Ice Age” movie franchise take now stands at $2.3 billion.
