Congratulations to Paweł Pawlikowski, Łukasz Żal and the entire “Cold War” film crew for three prestigious Oscar nominations (the best non-English-speaking film, directing and cinematography). A splendid success!#ColdWar #OscarNoms

So @AMCTheatres, @RegalMovies and likely @Cinemark are barring ROMA from their Oscar Best Picture showcases because it was released on Netflix a few weeks after it opened in theaters. Talk about being petty AND audience unfriendly. And yet, somehow not shocking.

AMC Theatres is barring "Roma" from its annual best picture showcase. Bastards.

Am levitating at this astonishing news. Thank you to @TheAcademy for this nomination in such incredible company. I’m indebted to so many people but most of all @melissamccarthy & Marielle Heller @cyefm ❤️@SearchlightUK pic.twitter.com/CIdJSMLkj1

That Best Actor list is wide open. Bradley Cooper may scoop it then. I like Olivia Colman for Best Actress and Sam Rockwell for Best Supporting Actor. The Supporting Actress field is too strong so I can’t even guess but I would like Roma for Best Film and Cuaron for director.

Glenn Close winning is practically a Jessica Lange/Blue Sky situation. It did ok but theatrical re-release prior to home video next week seems iffy.

From my 28 years of Oscar-watching, I’m trying to think of a nomination — in any category — more surprising than NEVER LOOK AWAY for Best Cinematography, and nothing’s coming to mind.

Thrilled to hear that the Film4-backed @ColdWarMovie has received 3 #OscarNoms for Foreign Language Film, Cinematography and Director. Congratulations to Paweł Pawlikowski and everyone who worked on this beautiful film. pic.twitter.com/aW8hAHC8rp

Not a single nomination for Leave No Trace. I thought Granik might have a shot for her screenplay, and I felt McKenzie had a slim chance, although Roma sprung the Supporting Actress surprise instead. Very disappointing. It's such a beautiful film.

Congrats to Spike Lee on his Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman. 2nd time an African American was honored with 3 nominations in one year. pic.twitter.com/KHGGlE154w

If Cooper is shrewd he rides the directing snub as a cause celebre all the way to best picture like Affleck. But not sure chip-on-his-shoulder is quite his look.#OscarNoms

I caught a lot of shit for remaking Peckinpah’s “classic” #STRAWDOGS. This article does nice job explaining some of my motivation. I’m proud of my work and the acting by @katebosworth @jameswoods @lazofficial #Jamesmarsden. https://t.co/TzLJBrQ0NF

“Corporate sponsorships have become even more difficult. That’s the most challenging for film festivals now. We can still get sponsorships — but it’s a much smaller piece of the pie than it used to be.”

“We look for those films that have that Sundance ilk. A lot of times we’re looking for discoveries, and a good way to do this has been a lot of outreach. We’ve been doing that for years and we’re seeing the repercussions of that in this program. Especially when we go to places like Sundance Hong Kong and even London, you talk to more people outside the United States and you get that feeling they’re paying attention that Sundance is interested in the world.”

The anti-GREEN BOOK contingent is over the top/not accomplishing anything. It’s a nice old-fashioned movie with a positive message. You don’t have to like everything about it or the people behind it, and you don’t have to vote for it, but don’t act like it’s the end of the world.
— Scott Feinberg (@ScottFeinberg) January 20, 2019
BAFTA’s between The Favourite and Roma, I think.
— Guy Lodge (@GuyLodge) January 20, 2019
I still don't think AMPAS voters will favor Green Book. Anyway. Good night.

This is one place where the Academy's four-year effort to seriously diversify its ranks could produce a different result than Green Book. Here's hoping. Because [checks watch] this choice has not aged well.
