so how wide is Spring Breakers opening because this film has art house written all over it … Korine is in Malick mode just repeating visual motifs over and over with very little dialogue … simulated fellatio with a gun … at the sxsw seminar for the film SG said her mother gave her the script and recommended it for her

Considering the two quotes about “Girls” on the front page, it’s interesting that in the real-life Steubenville gang-rape case, which just started today, the defense is arguing that football players having sex with an underage girl not just drunk but drunk to the point of slurred speech was consensual because “She didn’t affirmatively say no.”

All the hand-wringing over “Girls” seems unbelievably petty by comparison.

hey DP – stop watching ZDT for the 50th time and join in and write something about Veronica Mars movie being made –
which got money by fans …which makes no real sense since
the tv studios with millions have the money .. find out
how they are going to get this on tv with all the crazy credits or will it actually hit theatres and find out what
sort of digital deal they have ..netflix / itunes … and international tv deals – unless its really not important to you DP since its a silly teen show with an actress that never did a dp30.

The Veronica Mars movie thing is awesome. Not for any of the conventional reasons. Fuck Veronica Mars and the movie that roughly 100,000 people would want to see.

I’m putting the over/under on six days. That would be six days until they cancel the kickstarter and try and use this publicity push to get the film made. Warner Brothers will have to make it out of spite.

I can see NBC using Kickstarter to fund their 2013 – 2014 fall season. Pledge a hundred dollars and Matt Lauer will record your voicemail message.

the future of crowd funded projects lies at comic con . the geeks have the money to make every scifi thing a reality ..
there’s a huge audience for existing stuff like star trek – xfiles but probably too much legal trouble … but with worldwide fan base = 10 million per picture .

do we need a new twilight movie ? probably not but do we want K-Stew to be all over the internet being awkward asking fans for money .. K-Stew hanging out with hundreds of people who gave 10,000 or more … i can see LexG rolling out 1000 dollar bills right now.

Sepinwall made some good points about how only a few Kickstarter projects could work (limited stars, limited budget, pent-up fan demand, good timing) like this. But if all this leads to a Terriers movie, I’d be pretty damn happy. Saddly, there will never be a Deadwood movie.

that old show from the 90’s – boy meets world …
Danielle “Topanga” Fishel is now in maxim

there’s no real reason to have her on the cover …
Maxim is running out of real talent and is selling people of memories of their favorite old shows .. but these pictures aren’t great.

i’m a maxim fan but they are losing it – they need better photographers .. gq / esquire have better pictures .

maxim hot 100 list is coming in a few months – Jennifer Lawrence should be #1 but i’m guessing they’ll go for Mila Kunis … last year #1 was Bar Refaeli .. who’s a model already … Lindsay Lohan was #1 in 2007 and look how well that turned out .

does being #1 matter ? sure .. probably gets more acting
and more stuff they can sell .. commercial deals .

maxim list has gone downhill – instead of actual talent like Chastain / Adams / Gerwig …they have tons of reality tv stars .. reality stars are kinda useless after
the show ends and real actors stick around .

this could be the last year of the maxim hot girls list .. i don’t know how the magazine can survive till next year…

It shows how out of it I was in trying to be in it, acknowledging that I was out of it to myself, and then thinking, “Okay, how do I stop being out of it? Well, I get some legitimate illogical narrative ideas” — some novel, you know?

So I decided on three writers that I might be able to option their material and get some producer, or myself as producer, and then get some writer to do a screenplay on it, and maybe make a movie.

And so the three projects were “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep,” “Naked Lunch” and a collection of Bukowski. Which, in 1975, forget it — I mean, that was nuts. Hollywood would not touch any of that, but I was looking for something commercial, and I thought that all of these things were coming.

There would be no Blade Runner if there was no Ray Bradbury. I couldn’t find Philip K. Dick. His agent didn’t even know where he was. And so I gave up.

I was walking down the street and I ran into Bradbury — he directed a play that I was going to do as an actor, so we know each other, but he yelled “hi” — and I’d forgot who he was.

So at my girlfriend Barbara Hershey’s urging — I was with her at that moment — she said, “Talk to him! That guy really wants to talk to you,” and I said “No, fuck him,” and keep walking.

But then I did, and then I realized who it was, and I thought, “Wait, he’s in that realm, maybe he knows Philip K. Dick.” I said, “You know a guy named—” “Yeah, sure — you want his phone number?”

My friend paid my rent for a year while I wrote, because it turned out we couldn’t get a writer. My friends kept on me about, well, if you can’t get a writer, then you write.”
~ Hampton Fancher

“That was the most disappointing thing to me in how this thing was played. Is that I’m on the phone with you now, after all that’s been said, and the fundamental distinction between what James is dealing with in these other cases is not actually brought to the fore. The fundamental difference is that James Franco didn’t seek to use his position to have sex with anyone. There’s not a case of that. He wasn’t using his position or status to try to solicit a sexual favor from anyone. If he had — if that were what the accusation involved — the show would not have gone on. We would have folded up shop and we would have not completed the show. Because then it would have been the same as Harvey Weinstein, or Les Moonves, or any of these cases that are fundamental to this new paradigm. Did you not notice that? Why did you not notice that? Is that not something notable to say, journalistically? Because nobody could find the voice to say it. I’m not just being rhetorical. Why is it that you and the other critics, none of you could find the voice to say, “You know, it’s not this, it’s that”? Because — let me go on and speak further to this. If you go back to the L.A. Times piece, that’s what it lacked. That’s what they were not able to deliver. The one example in the five that involved an issue of a sexual act was between James and a woman he was dating, who he was not working with. There was no professional dynamic in any capacity.
