The Cinemarati Awards

Saturday, January 1st, 2005

Cinemarati, the premier organization of professional online film critics, today announced its nominations for the fifth annual Cinemarati Awards.

Topping the list of nominees are:

*Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,* with 12 nominations, including those for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Jim Carrey), Best Actress (Kate Winslet), and Best Original Screenplay;

*Dogville,* with 10 nominations, including those for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Paul Bettany), Best Actress (Nicole Kidman), Best Ensemble Cast, and Best Original Screenplay; and

*House of Flying Daggers,* with 8 nominations, including those for Best Film, Best Non-English Language Film, Best Director, and Best Actress (Zhang Ziyi).

*Bad Education,* *Hero,* and *Kill Bill: Vol. 2* each received 7 nominations.

The complete list of nominees in 18 categories follows.

UNIQUE VOTING PROCESS

Three rounds of voting by the Cinemarati Member Critics will winnow down the nominees in a playoff-style elimination, until one winner in each category remains.

For example, in the first round of voting, the Best Film nominees will face off like so:

1. *Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind* vs. 8. *Hero*
2. *Dogville* vs. 7. *The Incredibles*
3. *Before Sunset* vs. 6. *House of Flying Daggers*
4. *Bad Education* vs. 5. *Spider-Man 2*

Unlike other professional critics organizations, Cinemarati holds its signature, one-of-a-kind nomination and voting processes in public, in the forums of the Cinemarati Roundtable, http://www.cinemarati.org/roundtable , where movie lovers and Cinemarati Member Critics alike discuss the nominees and lobby for their favorites in each round of voting.

The winners of the 2005 Cinemarati Awards will be announced on Saturday, January 8.
