Mojo has Eagle ahead of Roommate but that’s fairly irrelevant.

This just shows the Jonas brothers got their 3-D movie out a year too late. And that Adam Sandler can do anything as long as the plot can be explained in two sentences. How many critics have already began writing their reviews of Jack & Jill?

  2. Foamy Squirrel says:

    So Nikki was right?

  3. David Poland says:

    A. Nikki’s not an issue. Sony is claiming to be right. All she does it type up what they tell her.

    B. We’ll see tomorrow. I am guessing that Just Go With It is about 10% over. But Bieber could be too.

  4. EthanG says:

What a contrast for big studio Fox compared to this time last year with Avatar & Alvin….they don’t have a movie in the top 20.

  5. LexG says:

The Eagle kind of ruled. So well-shot and mounted, Tatum and Bell are in good form… Only downer was the violence seemed so edited down for the PG-13 it was really obvious.

Kevin MacDonald seems hellbent on being Ridley Scott, but with this he’s more like the new Kevin Reynolds. Not really a bad thing.

Though Mark Strong is starting to get into “eh, this guy AGAIN?” territory in these kind of things.

  6. IOv3 says:

Seriously Lex, you will kneel before LORD SINESTRO, and BEG FOR MERCY!

  7. berg says:

The Eagle was a turkey – goods sets and costumes, bad action choreography … see Centurian instead, at least it let the blood flow in the right direction

  8. EthanG says:

    Black Death> Centurion

  9. botner says:

Cedar Rapids seems like an odd choice for a slow roll out. It was funny, but plays like a mainstream, 2500+ screen opener, not an arthouse expansion.

  10. JKill says:

I thought THE EAGLE was pretty good. It’s terribly well shot. I wondered how Macdonald’s style would translate with the shaky/handheld thing he’s been doing in the past two movies but he tones it down and its really just handsomely lensed. I really like Tatum and Bell in this, and they have good chemisty. While I would’ve liked an R rated version, there is something kind of swashbuckleing about the story that lends itself to PG-13. However, it’s a really hard PG-13 so it kind of feels like wasn’t intended, sort of how ROBIN HOOD or KING ARTHUR felt. There are also some interesting political concepts that recall Macdonald’s previous movies as well. Good flick.

  11. Pat says:

It’s based on a kids’ book too, so couldn’t make it too gory.

  12. Foamy Squirrel says:

I can’t imagine Nikki being terribly interested in the analysis of Just Go vs. Beiberfever, but I’d imagine that the conversation went something like “You want me to run with what story? Okay, but if it’s wrong, I’m going to want someone’s balls on a plate on Monday”.

Someone felt they had a strong enough case to pass the story on.

  13. scooterzz says:

it’s pretty much common knowledge that sutcliff’s novel was aimed at the ‘young adult’ market…its treatment and rating shouldn’t be a surprise….

  14. JKill says:

Yeah, good call on the YA source material. Although it’s interesting because being aimed at teens in literature isn’t as restricting as in films, where one has to deal with MPAA.

I also got to see SOMEWHERE this weekend and loved it. It’s such a nice companion peice to LOST IN TRANSLATION but is also very much its own thing. It’s a refining of Coppola’s style to something even more minimal and subdued but, for me, it packed a large emotional wallop. Dorff is spectacular, doing so much with so little. It’s a great physical performance that says what’s left unsaid. It’s also a beautiful movie and so nicely composed. I feel that this is one of those movies that’s not going to work for a lot of people, but for those it does, it’s really special. One of my favorites of the year.

  15. hcat says:

What people are saying about Eagle reminds me how I felt about True Grit. Old Fashioned sturdy adventure tale. As for the violence, after watching Centurion this weekend (partly because of its similarity to Eagle and because I needed to see who this Fassbender guy is), it may not be a bad decision to curtail the more gruesome aspects of the battles. After the 20th exploding skull in Centurion it got to be a little comical and distracting, you could tell the director came from a horror background.

  16. I and also my friends have already been digesting the best procedures located on the website and so unexpectedly got an awful suspicion I never thanked the website owner for those techniques. My young boys had been consequently joyful to see all of them and have definitely been taking pleasure in those things. Appreciate your simply being very helpful and also for making a choice on this sort of quality useful guides most people are really needing to be aware of. Our own honest apologies for not saying thanks to earlier.
