It’s time to give thanks and to offer what we would be thankful for. The Gurus offer up their personal choices of who and what they would be thankful for in acting (male and female) and in any category they like. There are many great choices offered up here, whether they got lots of votes or few, making The Gurus especially thankful of having so many great films and performances from which to choose.

This week, the Gurus consider their usual Best Picture list, but then a couple of categories that don’t really exist. First, Best Screenplay, without a distinction between Original and Adapted. Then, a proposed category (which not all the Gurus agree should be created) for Best Casting of A Motion Picture.

This week, in our last pre-November rankings, The Gurus are looking at the Best Picture race, split into films that have been widely seen by the industry (in theatrical release, wide screenings or at festivals) and those that have not.

As the Gurus head off into the Dolby night, magic carpets doing their bidding, one last set of charts for you. We voted for the Top 2 in each of the 24 Oscar categories. And not a lot of surprises at this late date. But there has been some movement, so check it all out. And keep perspective. Way back on October 2, The Gurus have Argo, (and in Part 2) Daniel Day-Lewis and Jennifer Lawrence as the frontrunners, DeNiro in the #2 slot and Anne Hathaway at #3. Sometimes, change is a bit of an illusion.

Gurus o’ Gold: 8 Days Before Final Oscar Voting Begins

Lincoln still leads the Best Picture race according to The Gurus, with only one Guru voting Lincoln or Argo as anything other than #1 or #2 in the race.

Otherwise, the races haven’t changed much at all since we last saw you. The biggest move is Tarantino’s screenplay for Django Unchained up from #4 to #2 in that race.

The Gurus take on all the Oscar categories, except for shorts. This round, The Gurus have Lincoln winning 7 Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, Actor, and Adapted Screenplay. And Skyfall would be win the second most Oscars, with three. The second page of nominations can be found here.

Refreshed from the holiday break, the Gurus take one last shot at Picture, Acting, and Directing just hours before the DGA nominations and 55 hours before the Oscar nominations are announced.

Look for charts of all categories (except shorts) by Thursday afternoon.

The Gurus wish you all a happy holiday.

But they would be even happier if they could pick a couple of surprise Oscar nominations. And there are also a few nominations that they think might be surprise gifts left under the ol’ Oscar tree.

There wasn’t a lot of movement in chart placement this week, though a lot of individual votes shifted.

Gurus o’ Gold: Post-NYFCC/Pre-Globes Nominations

The Gurus patiently waited to opine this week, though about half of the group felt that waiting for Nation Board of Review to announce was completely unnecessary.

The big mover this week was Zero Dark Thirty and director Kathryn Bigelow. There was also a bit of a bump for Django Unchained. Otherwise, it was mostly tightening, including a 6-man race for Best Actor.
